Irish VFX & Animation Summit

Multi award-winning international visual effects practitioners from the US, Canada and the UK will arrive in Dublin to participate in the very first Irish VFX & Animation Summit.

The two-day event, November 29 & 30, will be held at the Science Gallery and the Lighthouse Cinema. It will comprise a film screening, a full day of talks, presentations and panel discussions, as well as recent work showcases presented by local VFX & Animation companies and VFX & Animation software demos.

“The Irish VFX industry, while at an earlier stage, is making its mark with international film and TV drama projects such as Lockout, Game of Thrones, Last Days on Mars and Ripper Street. This event is a wonderful opportunity for local industry to hear from top international visual effects talent and discuss international growth opportunities for the sector,” says Teresa McGrane, deputy chief executive, Bord Scannán na hÉireann.

Speakers include:

William Sargent
William co-founded Framestore in 1986 after studying Business and Law at Trinity College. He is currently involved in Alfonso Cuarón’s Gravity and Carl Rinsch’s 47 Ronin. William was also involved in Steven Spielberg’s War Horse, Joe Johnston’s Captain America: The First Avenger, Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, David Yates’ Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and Jonathan Liebesman‘s Wrath of the Titans.

Anthony Smith
Anthony is a Compositing Supervisor and 2D Board member at Framestore in London. He began his career in 2001 in broadcast visual effects before joining Framestore as a Compositor in 2005 to work on Ridley Scott’s Kingdom of Heaven. He has since worked on a wide variety of film projects as compositing and on-set supervisor including The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, Quantum of Solace and Iron Man 3.

William Hall
Will joined Academy Award winning VFX studio MPC in 2010 as the pipeline software lead responsible for establishing software development practices, and steering the company towards their next generation, Python based asset management system, “Tessa” where they are currently working on movies including Godzilla, X-Men: Days of Future Past, Guardians of the Galaxy, The Amazing Spiderman 2, Maleficent and Cinderella.

Matt Leonard
Matt is currently Director and Head of Training at spherevfx, his own company that specialises in teaching 3D, Compositing and Visual Effects tools and techniques. Over the years Matt has taught artists from companies such as Industrial Light and Magic, Framestore, Dreamworks Animation, MPC, Weta Digital and Double Negative.

Des Carey
Starting his career as an apprentice to George Lucas in the early ‘90s, Des has become a pioneering figure in the world of Digital Finishing and DI.
As a Partner and the Vice President of Post Production at LIGHT IRON, Des has played an integral role in designing the on- set solution and workflow for such blockbusters as The Amazing Spider-Man, Total Recall, Flight, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, The Muppets, and the highly anticipated Hercules 3D and Ender’s Game.

Vincent Aupetit
Vincent is currently Previs Supervisor at The Third Floor London studio. After successive spells as an animator and cinematic artist for video games (Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix), commercials and tv series, he joined Framestore, where he contributed to Prince of Persia‘s Sand Room sequence, and Clash of the Titans.
He then went on to work hand-in-hand with Alfonso Cuaron on the space epic Gravity, as his personal previs artist for over two years. He has since been involved in setting-up the London branch of world renowned previsualisation company, The Third Floor, working on such titles as Thor: The Dark World, Edge of Tomorrow, Jupiter Ascending and Dracula Untold.
