RTÉ has landed a bit of a coup by becoming one of the first broadcasters in the world to launch a comprehensive international online TV catch-up service (RTÉ Player). Irish people across the globe can now catch up with a range of programmes that are cleared for international release. These include all RTÉ news, current affairs, entertainment shows (e.g. The Late Late) and a range of arts and music shows.

Subject to rights clearance, sports content available will include League of Ireland matches and Monday Night Soccer in March. Rugby Extra, The Sunday Game, basketball, boxing, greyhound racing, and the RDS Dublin Horse Show will be available to view.

News Now, RTÉ’s 24-hour live online news service is now available to global audiences. It will also be available as an international iPhone App. Radio 1 and 2fm have also launched iPhone Apps.

Since its launch in April ’09, 5.4 million programmes have been viewed and by December 2009, up to one million programmes were viewed on the RTÉ Player per month with 288,000 unique users.
