From the Google Dublin press office comes the announcement of enhanced, and pretty deadly functions, for Google Maps in beta on phones running Android 1.6 and above.
In simple terms you can now tell your phone where you want to go, or what you want to do (“Indian in Terenure please”) and hey presto, up come the directions. Even better, it will speak the directions to you as you drive or walk. Much better than the already very good free iPhone maps application. This surely spells big trouble for Garmin and Tom Tom?
Check out the video from the ubiquitous nice young man from Google as he brings you through what he has been working on of late, a revolution in free GPS and localised search tools.
