As part of its migration to a new generation digital infrastructure, RTÉ will invest in a range of new broadcast and media equipment. The broadcaster will adopt Sony’s XDCAM HD422 file-based format equipment as part of a station-wide migration to a digital, standard, and high definition, tapeless environment. Some of the specific equipment ordered from the Sony XDCAM range includes PDW-700 camcorders (pictured), PMW-EX3 semi-shoulder compact camcorders, PDW-HD1500 recording decks, PDW-R1 mobile recorder decks and PDW-U1 external drives which enable recorded material to be viewed on personal computers. In addition, Sony Professional also provides training, consultancy and implementation services to facilitate RTÉ in its move to a tapeless environment.
