There are many events for people interested in the digital economy. However, there are very few events that start with ideas and end with real, viable, digital businesses.
The Dublin Startup Weekend describes itself as “an intense 54 hour event that focuses on building a web or mobile app that could form the basis of a credible business over the course of a weekend.”
The weekend is for developers, graphic designers and business development people of all ages and levels of expertise. Essentially it’s for people with ideas – ideas for e-commerce sites and apps.
The format is simple. Individuals pitch their idea on Friday evening to all the others in attendance. Successful ideas attract teams of people. On Saturday morning the work begins. Over the next two days the techies and graphics people build a prototype of the proposition and the business types construct a commercial case. On Sunday evening, there is a final pitch in which each team shows what they have done to an evaluation panel. One of the teams is picked as the winner.
At the last event six teams were formed. You can read about their progress to date here http://dublin.startupweekend.org/.
The event takes place Feb 25th-27th at the NDRC, Digital Hub, Dublin 8.
This in an event for people with good ideas who want to see if their business plan will attract investment and get off the ground over the course of a weekend. Register here http://dublin.startupweekend.org/register/.
