In a bid to claw back a portion of the market share it has lost to the search engines, goldenpages.ie has invested in a major overhaul to “guarantee richer and more relevant results”.
The beta version of the new goldenpages.ie website is up with a new ‘find engine’. Why they didn’t call it a search engine is probably something to do with not wanting to be compared with Google. ‘It’s a find engine, not a search engine. Okay?’
The site now offers a single or double search box, a choice between Yellow and White Pages, and a ‘hyper local’ search function. It will show results based on users’ search behaviour and recent searches carried out by other users, as well as a topical widget, featured videos and top reviews.
Users can also access more information on their search results by hovering their cursor over the name of a business, where a pop-up information box will appear.
Jose Lema, marketing vice-president, Truvo (Golden Pages’ parent company), commented: “Our ultimate goal is to make it easier and faster for consumers to find reliable information and connect with the businesses they are looking for.”
That was Google’s ultimate ambition about 10 years ago. One wonders is Jose has seen what Google Goggles can do yet?
