Love art, can’t travel? The Google Art project is a new site that allows you to ‘visit’ some of the greatest art museums on the planet and enjoy the art on display.Using Google’s Street View technology, you can now virtually tour 17 of the best museums worldwide including MoMA in New York, the Van Gogh museum in Amsterdam and the Tate Britain.
Google employs ‘super high resolution photo-capturing technology’ to ensure viewers can zoom in for extreme close ups, so close the brush work is visible. Each image comes with an info panel that gives precise details about the artwork and the artists and even offers YouTube videos relating to the work.
While it is an amazing resource for art students it also offers art fans the opportunity to ‘build’ their own personal collection (virtually of course) and share their collection via their social networks.
