Stick a Shamrock on it and it will sell

St. Patrick’s Day is now an enormous global marketing and sales opportunity for a vast swathe of businesses and services. It seems that for a few weeks leading up to March 17th every year the demand for anything ‘Oirish’ is phenomenal.
The planet’s largest online auction house eBay is reporting a huge surge in sales of Irish paraphernalia. Sales of green items alone are soaring by 39% in the lead up to the feis, with over 24 pieces being snapped up per minute.

• Glasses will be raised with Guinness Pint glasses selling 75% more than before
• Love must be in the air, as Claddagh ring sales have shot up by 28%
• Sales of red curly wigs have grown by a hair raising 15%
• Lasting the test of time, Riverdance items are proving to be twice as popular as Lord of the Dance
• Saint Patrick’s Day Bunting has shot up by a huge 53%
• Shamrocks are being snapped up at a rate of 16% more than usual, with one being bought every two minutes
• Leprechaun pieces are on offer from as little as €1.15, with sales increasing by a mythical 49%
• Elsewhere, rainbows must be cropping up all over, as sales of Pots of Gold have popped up by 55%
Patrick Munden of eBay said, “Saint Patrick’s Day is arguably one of the world’s most popular celebrations, so it comes as no surprise to see that Saint Patrick’s sales have shot up 65% in the last two months alone, with nearly one item sold every minute.”
