Mobile network Three plans to create 50 new jobs. Recruitment for the new roles across finance, product development and retail sales, is already underway. The new positions will be located in retail stores nationwide as well as at Three’s head office in Dublin. The jobs are to meet the growing consumer demand for smartphones on Three’s network.
Robert Finnegan, chief executive, Three, said, “Today’s announcement demonstrates the power of the new “smartphone” economy – we’ve talked about the “smart economy” for years but the explosion of the smartphone is changing the way consumers use the internet for good and it is driving economic growth around the world. 2011 is the year of the smartphone – 340 million people will buy one this year alone.”
60% of phones sold in Ireland on Three’s network are smartphones. This figure is expected to reach 90% by the end of 2011.
