IAB Ireland and PwC recently valued the Irish online advertising market at €110m up from €97m in 2009. This shows a year-on-year growth rate of 13.5%. Display spend grew from 26.6% in 2009 to 31% in 2010.
At the launch of the figures, the question was asked – does the rise in display ad figure have anything to do with Facebook revenues being included in the figures for 2010? The answer was no. Why? Because most budget holders in Ireland don’t spend money display advertising on Facebook. Most don’t know how to.
Ireland’s marketing spend on social media sites is nowhere near as mature and extensive as in the US and the UK. It may be timely for Facebook in Dublin to do a little marketing itself and educate the Irish marketing community.
The search giant has just released ‘Facebook Studio’ – a gallery to inspire marketers. It’s for budget holders and their agencies. The studio offers a useful guide to the most ‘liked’ campaigns and the most shared campaigns, by language and region. User can also search by brands and by sectors.
It’s a good move by Facebook. If marketers and agencies are unsure of what a great campaign on Facebook looks like they can at least get ‘inspiration’ from some that worked well. Imitation and flattery and all that type of thing.
