The fourth annual DARE2BDRINKAWARE.ie awards ceremony was held in Dublin last night. This year’s competition highlighted how students can use digital technologies and social media to comment on young people’s attitudes to drinking. An online, interactive comic – where readers can make drinking choices on behalf of the ‘hero’ – and a ‘Big Brother’ style pseudo-documentary about a girls’ night out were amongst the winning entries.
“The introduction of a multimedia category has really added another layer to the competition,” said Fionnuala Sheehan, chief executive of drinkaware.ie. “One of the shortlisted entries, for example, was designed to highlight how drinking impacts on your senses by using a memory card game. Another was a website that allows users to share their experiences with alcohol, and play a game about not succumbing to peer pressure to drink to excess.”
In total, six prizes were awarded:
- Best Film: ‘Babes in Bits’ produced by ‘Bibs Productions’ from IT Tallaght.
- Best Film – Runner-Up: ‘The Conversation’, produced by ‘Delay No More Productions’, also from IT Tallaght.
- Best Multimedia Project: ‘drinkaware comic’ produced by T.J Fogarty and Roy Duggan from Limerick Institute of Technology.
