Getting Irish business online (www.gettingbusinessonline.ie) is an initiative that offers free business websites for Irish SMEs and sole traders. The initiative is backed by Google, Blacknight Internet Solutions, An Post and the County & City Enterprise Boards and is targeting the 40% of businesses that don’t have websites.
Despite the fact that 75% of Irish people use the web as their primary research tool for businesses and brands, only 60% of commercial SMEs have a website and only 21% of Irish businesses are e-commerce enabled.
Irish consumers spend 20 hours per week online. To not have a web presence in today’s economy is evidently foolish.
The campaign, led by Google, will support businesses to build a free website in under 30 minutes. Blacknight Solutions will provide the free site as well as free hosting with a .ie, .eu or .com domain (no charge for one year). Google will provide a trial of online advertising as well as a coupon worth €100.
“We are hopefully seeing the start of a national movement which will gather momentum and bring every sole trader, micro enterprise and SME online,” says Ronan Harris, director of online sales, Google.
