The organisers of The Appys announce The APP-cademy with Nokia Ireland to be held in the Science Gallery, Trinity College, Dublin on June 15th at 5.30pm. The APP-cademy is a chance for students and young programmers who have a great idea for an app, to get the app developed. Entrants will also have the opportunity to present their work to leading industry players in the mobile, marketing and tech communities.
Sian Gray, marketing manager, Nokia Ireland said, “Partnering with local developers to grow the Ovi Store locally is of huge importance to us at Nokia Ireland. The idea for the APP-cademy is simple and it builds on Nokia’s commitment to connecting people. We want to encourage young app developers, and those who have a great idea for an app, to express themselves and be as creative as possible with their ideas. All the app ideas and mobile web projects will be reviewed by leading professionals and the winner of the APP-cademy will receive a bursary of €5,000.”
Industry leaders
“The APP-cademy is open to creative people with good ideas who want to get their ideas [and portfolios] in front of the people who spend money on apps, hire app developers and have an interest in the mobile web,” says Edward Conmy, event organiser. “The night itself will be like a speed dating session between potential app developers and industry leaders. People from all disciplines can apply e.g. creative advertising graduates and students, marketers, engineers, architects, scientists, computer scientists, gamers and sports fanatics. The discipline isn’t important, the idea for the app is the most important thing.”
Great opportunity
All those who take part in the APP-cademy will receive industry exposure for their ideas and skills, not to mention valuable feedback and publicity.
The final short list of 15 people will attend a speed-mentoring session with five leading industry heavyweights where they will show off their work in 10 minute sessions. The winner of this event will walk away with the top prize.
“The APP-cademy is a showcase to allow students, app fans and young programmers to demonstrate what they can do. What we’re looking for are great ideas. A great app idea can be developed to run on every smart phone platform,” says Des Doris, event organiser. “Innovative ideas for the mobile web will also be considered.”
