Irish company Point the Way, in a joint venture with Sendero Group, will launch the Android smartphone application LookAround to the visually impaired market
Sendero Group is a US leader in accessibility products for the visually impaired.
LookAround for Android is designed to be accessible to visually impaired people and uses audio and haptic feedback to help the user navigate the app. It allows the user to shake the phone to discover what street they are on and what direction they are facing. The user can also find out what restaurants, bars and hotels are nearby and have the details relayed to them verbally. Users can also phone chosen businesses through the app.
Point the Way was established as part of NDRC’s LaunchPad accelerator programme in 2010. The company’s focus is to provide accessible smartphone apps.
