Marcus Segal, Zynga; Barry O’Leary CEO of the IDA & Richard Bruton, Minister for Enterprise

Social gaming giant Zynga, creators of Farmville and CityVille, has set up an office in Dublin. The company has already recruited 40 people to work in the Dublin office and Marcus Segal, COO of Game Studio Operations – who was in Dublin to open the office in the morning and to speak at the Dublin Web Summit in the afternoon – said he could not put a ‘cap’ on the number of jobs planned for the Dublin office. “I don’t want, nor can I, put a number on the amount of jobs that could be created in this office,” he told reporters.
Founded in 2007 by Mark Pincus, Farmville has become the world leader in social gaming. It has over 50 million daily active users and is preparing for an IPO. At current market prices, the company is valued at over $7 billion.
Segal said Zynga is recruiting for a number of roles including IT, business development and community support. “Multiple languages is a distinct advantage,” he said, “but not a necessary requirement.”
