It is almost impossible to launch a new product and get it listed (stocked) with any of the multiples and large wholesale groups. Unless of course you are like P&G or Unilever and can back each launch with multi-million euro advertising campaigns. And even with such massive media backing, brands can fail (Guinness Light anyone?).There is, however, a way manufacturers and smaller brands can test the market place and see what consumers think of their product, it’s called ‘tryvertising’.
Tryvertising has also been made easier thanks to the digital world. A new Indian online platform, Sample&Try allows consumers to try out products before they commit to becoming long term purchasers.
It’s a briliant concept. Manufacturers simply send Sample&Try product samples which can be requested free of charge by consumers. It’s a great way to generate word of mouth around a product and the manufacturer gets useful feedback.
There are also physical ‘tryvertising’ stores in action. For example the first European Sample Centre recently opened in Budapest. There is also a Sample Lab store in Japan. How long before we see one in Ireland, particularly with all the empty retail space going a begging?
It could even be in the form up of a ‘pop up’ sample store. #Winning.
