Insurance firm launches weather safety app

Severe weather conditions since 2009 have cost over €765 million in insurance claims in Ireland

Good apps should combine utility, ease of use and a solution (or a variety of solutions). The WeatherSafe app, developed by Allianz insurance, delivers weather forecasts and property protecting alerts. Its aim, apart from letting people know what the weather will be, is to “help protect homeowners from costly claims resulting from weather related damage to their home”.
The app will deliver forecasts for any of 2.3 million locations worldwide. Allianz customers can set WeatherSafe to receive severe weather alerts for up to three locations anywhere in Ireland or Europe.
According to the Irish Insurance Federation, severe weather conditions since 2009 have cost over €765 million in insurance claims, twice the total cost of all weather related claims in the last ten years.
The app is free on iOS (Apple). However, only Allianz customers can get extra functionality by entering their insurance policy number on a micro-site (www.allianz.com).
