Mozy has just released its new Android and iOS enabled mobile apps for phone and tablet. I was speaking to Claire Galbois (pictured right) from Mozy who is rolling out the personal and business data back-up service across Europe. Essentially Mozy is a mix of Dropbox, iCloud and other generic online storage offerings that allow you to store everything you hold dear for about a fiver a month. The new mobile applications bring Mozy in line with the others and allow you to access everything on the go from any Android or Apple devise. I got a free account – full disclosure – and have been playing around with it yesterday. It is slick, easy to use and delivers the emerging Cloud computing industry hallmark – complex technology rendered with the easiest user interface possible. These services are designed with the “It had better just work” consumer expectation in mind. The firm has a dedicated Irish site and the European support centre is based in Cork (it is part of multi-national EMC ).
Data farms of intimate details
Many of our intimate details are soon to be held in data farms around the world, once you can get your head around that you may as well jump in. Otherwise it is an off-the-grid bunker in Idaho/Glenties for you.
“Mozy is going to give you access to your files wherever you are, whenever you like, on your terms,” said Russ Stockdale, general manager of Mozy “Our customers want the data they’re protecting with Mozy to work harder for them, so we will be enabling secure access to that information on demand, via mobile phones, tablets and our new, richer, web-access experience.”
