Four key players in the televisual industry are to join forces to create a standard for consumer 3D active glasses, in a bid to inject more life into the 3D TV market.The ‘Full HD 3D Glasses Initiative’ is being developed by Sony Corporation, Panasonic Corporation, Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. and X6D Limited (XPAND 3D).
The companies intend to develop radio frequency (RF) system 3D active glasses technology that will also include multiple types of infrared (IR) system protocols between 3D active glasses and 3D displays.
Universal glasses with the new IR/RF protocols will be made available in 2012, and are will be compatible with 2011 3D active TVs.
The aim of the initiative is to build a standard that means 3D glasses will deliver 1080p picture quality to each eye, giving consumers the full 3D experience.
