The Dublin Contemporary 2011 app is now available for free download for both Apple and Android smartphones. It offers a definitive guide to Dublin Contemporary 2011 by providing full details of the 114 artists exhibiting, the venues and locations, along with an interactive artist guide to use while browsing the exhibition.
The app will also keep guests posted on upcoming events during the exhibition including event listings, which will be updated weekly and can be bookmarked and shared with friends. Users can stay in touch with all the exhibition updates through dedicated channels for news, blogs and events and watch Dublin Contemporary 2011 TV footage.
There is also an interesting social imaging platform called ‘Snap and Tweet’. Designed by Mobimage, snap and tweet encourages people to tweet pictures of the artworks on Dublin’s streets. Using image recognition software, the system will automatically recognize the artwork in the pictures and tweet back relevant information, text and links to the user, as well as allowing users to like, share or comment on artworks. Dublin digital firm Arekibo developed mobile-optimised content especially for the project.
‘This is the first time worldwide that the ‘Snap and Tweet’ platform has been used for a large-scale public project. It’s a simple, intuitive way for people to interact with visual art, similar in ways to QR codes, but quicker and easier to scan – the artwork is its own code,” says Alan Doherty, founder of Mobimage.
