Mobile Monday (MoMo) Dublin and MoMo Belfast came together on September 19th at the Gibson Hotel, Dublin for the first MoMo Showcase Ireland. The event was an opportunity for professionals from across the mobile and mobile developer sectors to come together, share ideas and connect.Norbert Sagnard, one of the event organisers, said Showcase Ireland was organised to allow the 150+ attendees “to discover what their peers across the border were doing, how they could exchange smart ideas and even maybe cooperate together to improve and export successfully.”
Nokia Ireland and Microsoft were the first speakers of the day. Shane O’Brien from Nokia Ireland and David Fitzgerald from Microsoft Ireland discussed the opportunities available for developers who wish to engage and work with the Windows Phone platform. The ambition, said O’Brien, was to drive the platform to be second only to Android in terms of global reach. He also said Nokia and Microsoft were keen to hear from developers with good ideas and help, including financial, is available for those who want to develop marketable Windows Phone apps.
Next up was Alex Duncan, CEO of Openmind. His company recently launched ‘Portico’ a product that allows mobile operators to offer IP telephony to their customers in competition with Google hangouts and Skype. On the day Duncan also talked about what the mobile community could do to get Ireland moving forward and creating opportunities and wealth again. We need more ‘self belief’ as a nation and this belief begins with individuals and companies alike.Peter Tuomey of Co. Kerry firm Altobridge demonstrated the valuable work his company does in connecting small remote communities in Asia, Africa and South America with mobile operators. With access to the US market, DRG now plans to sell a range of mobile services in the US including apps, mobile websites, location-based services, mobile couponing, QR codes and mobile strategies.
