Many people use foursquare, most don’t. However, this could all change thanks to Radar, described by Foursquare as “a huge step in the evolution of the foursquare vision”. And it is. Radar will change the DNA of Foursquare and bring it right bang in the middle of the mainstream and it’s all thanks to Apple’s iOS5.

What’s different about it?
The ‘old’ foursqaure gave users the chance to share what they were doing and tell their friends when they were checking in to various places. About as useful as a two-legged chair, unless you were really into that sort of thing. What foursquare Radar does is push suggestions at you.
“If you follow a list, like the 101 Best Dishes of 2011, foursquare will let you know when you’re next to one. Or you save that yoga studio to your to-do list (because you really want to try it); we can remind you when you’re close. Or, better yet, if you’re driving home and three of your friends are getting together nearby, we’ll tell you so you can meet up,” writes the company in a blog.

Useful
As you can see, the new app makes foursquare actually quite useful, especially for those living in large cities. The new feature also means retailers and other services can offer real-time deals to users.
“After you download the latest version of the foursquare App and turn on Radar, your iPhone running iOS 5 will help you spend more time with the people and places around you. It’s powered by our Explore algorithm, so it catches all the interesting or fun things around you,” writes the firm.
Looking forward to giving it a go when it finally lands on the app store.
