Independent.ie is the top Irish content app on the Nokia store. In the news category Independent.ie tops the charts and has received a four star rating. A recent survey into smartphone ownership in Ireland by mobile ad agency Púca shows that 54% of Irish adults have a smartphone. 17% own a Nokia smartphone. When those without a smartphone were asked what their next phone would be, 48% said Nokia, so it appears Nokia is still a strong brand in the Irish market and the Ovi platform is still relevant.
Nokia’s recent partnership with Microsoft has, however, created another new platform for apps – the Windows 7 platform. It remains to be seen how popular the Windows Nokia phone becomes with Irish consumers. There are over 700,000 smartphones in the hands of Irish consumers. The one million barrier will be broken within the next few months.
