The most popular game on Facebook in 2011 was, surprisingly, Playdom’s Gardens of Time. Why surprisingly? Because it’s the first time in years that Zynga hasn’t had a game in the top spot.
The top ten is stuffed with Zynga games, but Gardens of Time, a hidden objects game won out while Cityville by Zynga came third.
“In 2011, people loved playing hidden object, simulation, and casino-related games with their friends on Facebook,” said Facebook on its blog.
Social gaming is huge and at face value appears quite addictive. In 2011 the average gamer on Facebook played at least three different games each month and returned to the site to play games on over 50% of the days they visited the site.
The Facebook games with the most active users for December 2011: CityVille, CastleVille, FarmVille, Texas HoldEm Poker and The Sims Social.
