It’s that time of the year again when we receive lots of research around the top things that happened in 2011. A look back in anger, joy and wonderment so to speak.Last year Facebook’s top ten list for the UK was all about X Factor and the World Cup. This year it’s all about the Royal Wedding, the UK riots, TOWIE and the death of Bin Laden.
During the Royal Wedding weekend, over a million people in the UK used Facebook to discuss the festivities in just 24 hours. Kate Middleton led the way on her wedding day with 131,385 mentions, followed by Prince William with 104,747, however it was David Beckham’s arrival that led to a surge in discussion– with 9,000 mentions of his name in just 20 minutes.
I’m sure we’ll get the Irish version soon. Mind you, it’s likely to be packed with the themes surrounding the general election, the banking debacle and the eurozone crisis (as well as the Royal Wedding, the Queen’s visit and Obama’s visit to Moneygall).
