For mothers to be, especially first time mums, there is literally a world of advice out there – it’s a multi-billion euro business. First time mums can get books, CDs, apps, lotions, potions and advice from mammy.

What do soon-to-be dads get? Mostly just a few sympathetic nods from their mates and lots of “You won’t know what’s going to hit you” comments from other chaps who have kids.

However, the first time dads’ market is probably the most untapped market on the planet. Now that ‘modrin fathers’ are much more in tune with all things baby, they also need advice – practical, sensible, useful advice. (If someone was to invent a spill & soil proof onesie for babies that you can put on easier than your own shoe, that would also help).

A new mobile app called Daddyo, developed by iQ Labs, aims to be a digital ‘survival kit’ for first time dads.

The app was developed by first-time dad, Tom Cunningham of iQ Content. It covers all the critical steps, from the frantic moment of conception, to the luxurious surrounds of the labour ward, to the baby’s first six, peaceful months and also gives dads advice on how to deal with weird hormone related moods swings, what new families need to budget for (you won’t believe the price of nappies), and how to decide on baby names.

It is an iOS app, available from the App Store, under ‘Lifestyle’ for €1.79.
