The ESB has launched its second ‘Great Electric Drive’, whereby members of the public and the business community can become an ecar ambassador and trial an electric vehicle for a four month period during 2014/2015.
ESB is looking for 24 ecar ambassadors, “across a wide variety of ages, lifestyles, occupations and commuting patterns, as well as organisations”, to get involved in this year’s trial.
Ecars such as the BMW i3, the Citroen C Zero, the Mitsubishi iMiEV, the Mitsubishi Outlander Plug-in Hybrid SUV, the Nissan Euro LEAF, the Renault ZOE, or a Renault Kangoo Z.E. commercial electric van are up for grabs for successful applicants.
“An electric car costs less than two cent a kilometre to fuel and the average motorist could achieve running cost savings of almost €2,300 a year,” says Dermot McArdle, head of ecars, ESB.
Last year the 21 ecar ambassadors each drove an average of 300km per week.
If you’d like to apply for the ecar trial, go here. The closing date for applications is March 4, 2014. The selected ecar ambassadors will be announced in April.
