Guinness has launched a new mobile app for Android and iPhone that rewards users when they check-in to pubs.
The ‘Guinness Plus’ app, which was over a year in development, aims to reward pub goers and increase customer footfall in the on-trade. Users can check-in to over 6,500 pubs in Ireland and Northern Ireland using the app. The more they check-in, the more likely they are to be rewarded with prizes.
On downloading the app, users are rewarded with a pint of Guinness that can be redeemed at a participating pub. In addition to receiving a ‘welcome pint’ users will get the chance to claim pints at various other times during the year. Users will also be in with a chance to win bigger prizes like Guinness rugby tickets, a trip to New York for St. Patrick’ Day and a party in the Guinness Storehouse.
“Guinness Plus is, however, more than a mobile marketing tool to drive footfall into pubs and reward check-ins. The ‘wow’ feature of the app is its social map of the participating 6,500 pubs. Users of the app will be able to see how many other users of the app are in various pubs in their vicinity,” says Guillermo Sanchez, marketing manager, Guinness.
For example, a user could stand at the top of Grafton St. after work one Friday and consult the Guinness Plus social map. This will be able to tell him (or her) what pubs are busy with users of the app and what pubs are quieter. “Some people like a livelier environment, and some people just want a quiet pint, so this feature can help with that choice,” suggests Stephanie Sheehan, brand manager, Guinness.
Developed by Infosys and Aegis, the app will be supported by above the line and below the line campaigns including 48 sheets, specials, HDs and six sheets. The app is aimed at over 18s and users will be able to check-in to participating pubs from Monday, 21st October 2013.
