President Barack Obama hit a new ‘political moments’ record on Twitter by inspiring 52,757 tweets per minute (TPM) during his speech at the DNC.
Twitter has various teams monitoring trends, topics and popular subjects. During his Democratic National Convention (DNC) speech, all Twitter references to President Obama were recorded by Twitter’s Government & Politics team.
Twitter is seen as a growing and influential communications channel in the race for the White House this year.
Twitter has also launched a ‘political index’ to track sentiment towards the two presidential candidates in this year’s election.
Currently Barack Obama has 10+ million followers on Twitter and his political index is at 52. Mitt Romney has just 1+ million followers and a political index of 9.
