MATTER, the online home for long-form journalism, has two new additions to its editorial team – Mark Horowitz as senior editor and Madison Kahn as assistant editor.

A former senior editor at WIRED, Horowitz has previously edited long-form features for the New York Times Magazine and New York Magazine. He most recently worked as a consultant for media companies, including Hearst and Time Inc. and has contributed features to The Atlantic and The New Yorker. Horowitz will work across the site to commission and assign major stories.

Following stints at Outside magazine and Boston magazine, Kahn joins MATTER to manage story production, social media, and edit. Her freelance writing has appeared in Outside, Boston, as well as ESPN, New Mexico, and Draft.

Founded by Jim Giles and Bobbie Johnson after a record-breaking Kickstarter campaign in 2012, MATTER was acquired by Ev William’s Medium earlier this year. “MATTER is the home for in-depth journalism about the ideas that are shaping our future, and currently publishes one story per month on subjects ranging across science, technology, medicine and the environment,” says Giles.
