The most significant thing about iOS6, Apple’s new operating system, is its new relationship with Facebook.

Fresh from its bruising encounter with the stock exchange, Facebook has received a massive boost from Apple. Once iOS6 is installed on people’s iPhones and iPads, they will be able to update their Facebook status by talking to their phones (with the help of Siri). Users will also be able to ‘Like’ movies and apps in Apple’s iTunes store.

While Apple has got into bed with Facebook it has firmly booted Google out of its house. iOS6 will use Apple’s own Maps applications rather than Google’s. The application will come with traffic reports and turn-by-turn navigation.

Apple’s new relationship with Facebook has been a long time coming but from the initial first dance it seems to be fairly committed to a long term romance. Funny considering Facebook’s other major suitor is Microsoft. Apple and Microsoft … together at last?

See the new iOS6 Maps feature below. Pretty cool.
