Are you sick of rummaging through your bag or pockets for your phone to check email and status updates? Well now you can be spared the inconvenience of searching thanks to Sony’s new smart watch.

The new device connects to your smartphone via Bluetooth and allows you check email, browse Twitter, Facebook or any other app from the display on the wristwatch.

With just a 1.3 inch touchscreen, you won’t be able to pen 140 character quips, never mind emails but you will be able to browse through messages and see if there’s anything that requires your attention. You can even see incoming calls and answer them if you have a Bluetooth headset.

As a Sony product the device only works with Android smartphones so Apple fans will miss out. The watches have launched in US Sony stores on Thursday and are selling for $150. You can also buy interchangeable different coloured wristbands for an extra $20.

Now that almost everyone has a smartphone these new watches will give tech geeks a chance to stand out from the crowd and I can imagine them selling well. Sony won’t have it all to themself though and face competition from devices like Motorola’s Motoactv, Apple’s iPod Nano and rival smart watches such as the Pebble and the Wimm One.
