Social game developer and creator of Farmville, Zynga has launched a new platform designed to let users interact on a range of different devices.  The ‘Zynga With Friends’ network is being built as a common playground for users of rival smartphones, tablets, or websites and is being infused with features such as live chat, Zynga.com’s social stream, and real-time multiplayer capabilities.

The move which will encourage users to play games on Zynga’s network instead of through Facebook (where Farmville first flourished) comes a week ahead of Zynga’s fifth birthday.  “Zynga With Friends will be your social lobby where ever you are on the Web or on mobile,” said general manager Manuel Bronstein at Tuesday’s ‘Unleashed’ event in San Francisco.

Chief Engineer Kostadis Roussos also announced that Zynga will be opening its application programming interface (API) to third-party developers, giving them access to that infrastructure. This should make it easier for start-up developers to enter the social gaming space as well as potentially provider a huge range of new games for the Zynga network.

The event also unveiled new game ‘The Ville’ in which people represented by animated characters create homes and socialize in Sims-style play.

Like many gaming companies Zynga has an office in Dublin which opened in 2011. See their latest job openings here.
