‘Your eyes are shining wide with wonder,
Secrets you must keep.
A Wood Dragon has come to greet you,
From the Greenwood Deep.’
Into the Greenwood Deep is digital artist and photographer Phil McDarby’s first solo show. It will open at 6.30-8.30pm, Wednesday, 18th April, 2012 at the The Copper House Gallery off Synge Street, Dublin 8. Author and illustrator Niamh Sharkey will open the exhibition.
At the heart of this work is a desire to capture a feeling of wonder and discovery – something we can lose as adults. Phil’s lifelong love of forests began as a young child and since then his drawing, painting and writing have all been inspired by the enchanted wildwoods he explored so deeply in his boyhood.
Over a 14-year career Phil McDarby has worked across many visual media, from web design and branding, computer game design, 3D modeling and animation to concept art, matte painting, illustration and photography.
His awards include four CG Choice Awards from the Computer Graphics Society of America, with work published twice in the prestigious Exposé, Ballistic Media’s annual collection of digital art. Having also exhibited his work in Amsterdam (2008) and Edinburgh (2009), he currently works at Brown Bag Films as a matte painter.
Into the Greenwood Deep runs at The Copper House Gallery from 18th April until 12th May 2012. Admission is free and all are welcome.
