Richard-Waghorn

Richard Waghorn, former chief technology officer (CTO) with the South African Broadcasting Corporation, has been appointed to the RTÉ role following an external competition.
This new position replaces the vacant head of technology role and he starts in mid-February. Waghorn will join group commercial director, Willie O’Reilly and managing director of RTÉ Digital, Múirne Laffan, as the most recent additions to the RTÉ executive board and he will report directly to the director general.
As CTO, Waghorn will lead the development and delivery of RTÉ’s technology strategy. The strategy is to enhance output production and content delivery in a rapidly-evolving digital market.
“His very relevant experience at both the BBC and the South African Broadcasting Corporation are most valuable as we embark on a new Digital journey that presents many challenges and opportunities. We look forward to welcoming him to RTÉ,” says Noel Curran, director general.
Waghorn also worked with the BBC where he was responsible for the distribution strategy on all broadcast platforms in the UK including Freeview, satellite cable, FM and DAB.
