Thank you for the music – Google and Microsoft see the future


The death of the big music label is well documented. Hard copy music sales have plummeted and recording artists today make most of their money from live performances. Now the search giants are getting in on the music scene – in a big way. Microsoft says 10% of all search queries are entertainment related with 70% of these searches looking for lyrics to songs. Looking for a job? There’s an app for that


Recruitment firm Vantage Resources recently launched Ireland’s first IT jobs app for the iPhone. IT professionals and job seekers can get it at www.vantage.ie/iphone.html or at the iTunes store, for free.
The app allows the user to create and manage their own profile and tailor the job information they want to receive based on their specific skill set, location and job requirement. Once a job matching the individuals’ details comes available the Vantage recruiters will update the candidate by sending text and video clip details to the candidate’s iPhone. Read More »

Apps to lead next revolution in news?


As Irish and international publishers struggle to survive in the face of falling ad revenues and copy sales, the boss of the world’s largest ‘publisher’ believes print media will move to mobile digital devices faster than most publishers anticipate.
Speaking at the Activate 2010 summit, organised by the Gaurdain last week, Eric Schmidt, CEO of Google said the internet is the most disruptive technology in history and replaces scarcity with abundance, “so that any business built on scarcity is completely upturned”.

H+A strengthens its media training service

H+A Marketing + PR has teamed up with media coach and entrepreneur Gavin Duffy to enhance its media training offering. Duffy will provide tailored media training sessions for the company’s client base in Munster, along with potential new clients nationwide. Aideen McGrath, director H+A Marketing + PR says, “In the last six months we’ve seen a huge increase in demand for effective media training from local businesses, and the opportunities for a strategic regional alliance quickly became obvious.”
Gavin Duffy added, “Dealing with the media can be hugely intimidating. Our media training course will give clients the confidence to handle media queries and interviews.”
Clients can choose from a half-day session or a full day session for up to five members of a company. H+A also provides one-on-one media training sessions.
