So, what’s next in the world of messaging and networking and sharing on mobile? We have Twitter for sharing information, Facebook for modest boasting and Snapchat for saucy shenanigans but what about something completely different?

Pop is a new iPhone app from the firm behind Zeega and the basic principle of the app is simple – users can take a photo or video and then combine this media with a GIF.

Creating this media/GIF combination is creating a ‘Pop’. You then share your Pop with your networks.

“There’s a hunger to be able to create in the moment,” said Jesse Shapins, co-founder of Zeega and Pop. “There’s a unique power that mobile technology gives us today to record in the moment as well as be connected to the web.”

Is Pop the next mobile craze? We’ll have to wait and see, but it has a pretty good chance of becoming popular. GIFs are very popular and having the ability to mash up serious photos or videos with silly GIFs could be like catnip for a certain ‘mobile first’ generation who grew up communicating using a smartphone.
