A new price comparison app for Irish shoppers has been launched.

PriceSpy – which is owned by international media group Schibsted ASA, also the owner of – is an iOS and Android app that details over 111,000 consumer products across a range of categories.

The data behind PriceSpy

While out shopping, people can use the app to “receive instant independent and accurate price and product comparisons drawn from almost 400 Irish online shops, as well as thousands of international shops”.

“What makes PriceSpy work is the quality and accuracy of the data it holds,” says Lorna Barker, senior marketing manager for PriceSpy. “The search and filtering tools mean shoppers can ‘PriceSpy’ what they’re looking for at a very detailed level. For example, they could specify the weight, size and colour of a laptop, and get served results. PriceSpy currently has more than 1.3 million searchable product properties listed on the service.”

The lowest price first

PriceSpy also says the transparency and objectivity of its service is vital to its reputation. “Our listings are presented in a ‘lowest price first’ order. There is no way for retailers to ‘pay their way’ to the top of our listings, so our users can be confident we are providing them with the fairest price comparisons available at all times,” says Barker.
