Google has released a 10 minute video that gives start-ups and SMEs some tips on how to get the most from search engine optimisation (SEO).

Google is quite open in its advice. “Do not hire any rogue or shady SEO [provider] — if they guarantee rankings, it’s too good to be true,” says Maile Ohye, developer advocate on Google’s Webmaster Central Team. “Don’t participate in link schemes or buying links for the purpose of passing PageRank.”

If you want to get your website and company ranked higher on Google search results, have a look at this video and pass it around your team.

Top tip? “You want to use relevant keywords naturally in your text. These keywords are like query terms that normal people would use to find your product or your business,” says Ohye.

Ohye also suggests using Twitter and Facebook – make the most of social media channels because they actually do count in driving traffic to your site.
