TV3’s new ‘TV viewing companion app’, ShowPal™ has been downloaded by over 15,700 people in the first week of its launch, bringing it to number one in the top 25 free entertainment apps in the App store. ShowPal is also currently in the top three of the best overall ‘free to download’ apps, and wants to achieve a target figure of 30,000 downloads in just two weeks.

ShowPal is a second screen app designed to “complement and enhance viewers’ TV viewing experience”.

The idea is – as you watch your favourite shows, the app delivers content and information around the show you are watching. This content includes related Twitter feeds, links to articles and related information, and celebrity profiles.

The app can also be used to market goods and can push products associated with the programme people are watching.

The second screen is an area marketers and TV producers are keen to exploit. 58 per cent of Irish people are online while watching TV. 70% of tablet owners and 68% of smartphone owners use their devices while watching TV. Irish viewers watch more than 25 hours of TV every week.

The ShowPal™app was developed by Axonista exclusively for TV3.
