Vodafone’s new global marketing initiative – Vodafone Firsts – is asking people – no matter their age or where they come from – to “do something remarkable for the first time using mobile technology”.

First up is professional surfer Tom Lowe who lives in Lahinch, Co Clare. Tom aims to use mobile tech to track down one of the world’s most dangerous waves, the Todos Santos wave at the northern tip of Baja California, Mexico. He is attempting to be the first European to ride it.

When Vodafone asked champion boxer Mary Kom what she wanted to do for the first time, she said she wanted to help women across India learn to defend themselves. Her video can be seen here.

More stories coming soon will include the world’s first crowd-sourced theatre production, colour-conducted choir and singing forest.

While Vodafone recruited some high profile people to get the ball rolling on this campaign, it says it “will also ask consumers what they would like to do for the first time, helping to make their ambitions a reality”.
