Is there such thing as a cheap-but-good, entry-level smartphone? Yes, there is, quite a few in fact. Here are six of the best.
You probably don’t want to shell out a small fortune for a smartphone to appease a demanding teenager? High on the list of teenage phone demands are the cameras and the screen size.
A cheap smartphone is often a dodgy thing. Most cheap smartphones are bad. There is always the second-hand market, which, if you have a trusted phone shop in your neighbourhood is a good option, especially for iPhones.
However, if you want the out-of-the-box brand spanking new-phone-smell experience, then this list is for you. Most of these phones cost in, around or under €200. All of them run on Android.
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 9
A cracking Android 10 phone for under €200. Very difficult to beat this one. It has a MediaTek Helio G85 processor under the hood of its impressive 6.53in frame. And, most notably for your future TikTok star, it has four cameras on the back, including a macro lens and a beefy 48-megapixel camera.
The Nokia 1.3
A smartphone for less than €100? Surely not? And it’s from Nokia? What has happened to the world? But don’t fret. This little soldier does work and work’s well despite its lack of power. It has a Quad-core 1.3GHz processor, 16GB of storage, an 8-megapixel camera and runs on a particular Android 10 Go operating system. It’s also very sturdy and looks good.
The Realme 6 Pro
The Realme 6 Pro is a smartphone that its makers call the ‘entry-level king’. It’s just over €300. It has the same-sized screen like an iPhone 11 – a 6.6-inch display. On the back, there’s an impressive four-lens setup – 64Mp + 12Mp + 8Mp + 2Mp. Pretty good.
The Moto G8 Plus
The Moto G8 Plus is again around the €200 mark in price. It has a generous 6.3-inch HD+ display. In common with a lot of entry-level smartphones, the best thing about this phone is its cameras. There’s a triple rear line up on the back; a 48Mp wide-angle lens, a 16Mp ultra-wide-angle lens and 5Mp depth sensor camera (for taking portrait pictures). The Snapdragon 665 processor powers this little beast, so quite a handy piece of kit.
The Honor 9X
The Honor 9X is another Android phone for under €200. It comes with a 48Mp primary camera, an 8Mp wide-angle lens and 2Mp depth-assisting camera on the back. It features a 6.59-inch display with a high screen-to-body ratio of 91% – a tremendous little starter phone.
The Samsung Galaxy A21
We like the Galaxy A21. It’s quite a fashionable choice with four rear cameras and an impressive 48-megapixel sensor within its camera bundle. What’s not to enjoy and it’s a great price too at under €200?
